If water pools in your yard and takes days to disappear, the fix depends on where the water comes from and where it collects. Here are the five solutions we use most in Round Rock β and when each one makes sense.
Often the simplest fix: if your lot is flat or slopes toward the house, reshaping the ground to slope away solves the problem at the source. It's usually the first thing we look at and the foundation for any other fix. More on drainage grading β
When the ground stays saturated or water seeps up from below, a French drain β a gravel-filled trench with perforated pipe β collects the water underground and carries it away. It's the go-to for soggy, slow-draining yards on Round Rock's clay soil. How French drains work β
For a specific low spot, patio, or driveway that collects water, a catch basin captures it at that point and feeds it into a drain line. Great for targeted pooling rather than a whole-yard problem. More on catch basins β
A surprising amount of yard flooding is just roof runoff dumping next to the house. Extending downspouts β or burying them and routing the water underground and away β keeps that water off your foundation and out of your beds. Foundation drainage & downspouts β
A swale (a shallow, planted channel) or a decorative dry creek bed can guide water across your yard to a safe outlet β solving the drainage problem while actually looking good. Often paired with the fixes above.
Most real fixes are a combination β for example, regrading plus a French drain, or downspout tie-ins feeding a catch basin. The only way to know for sure is to have someone walk the property during or after a rain and see where the water actually goes. That's exactly what our free assessment is for.
